BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (WCAX) – A Rhode Island man accused in the strangling death of a Vermont woman in February 2023 was back in court Monday morning.

Shawn Conlon, 44, pleaded not guilty to 2nd-degree murder back in January in the killing of Claudia Voight.

The 73-year-old Windham woman was found dead in her home on February 20, 2023. State police say Conlon was renting a room in Voight’s home and stopped paying her rent in late 2022, but they say he stayed on in her house until he attacked and killed her. Police later arrested Conlon in Connecticut.

Voight’s daughter testified Monday about her interactions with Conlon and spoke about the very first moments she realized that her mother was dead.

Conlon waived his rights to continue with the hearing and will be back in court on Thursday to discuss bail.

Reporter Adam Sullivan will have more on the hearing in his full report tonight at 5 and 6.
