ENOSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) – A bear found some relief this weekend after Vermont wildlife officials were able to free its head from a stuck jug.

Taking a cue from Winnie the Pooh, the bear got stuck earlier this spring in the Enosburgh area. It was first spotted with its head stuck back around May 10th. At that point, officials tried to trap it and free its head but were unsuccessful.

Last week, the bear reappeared and officials on Saturday say they were finally able were able to free its head. Despite its ordeal, officials say the bear was very healthy with only minor injuries.

Officials caution the public to never leave food outside. “Don’t store your birdseed out and if you have compost or something else that you have out there, make sure it’s secured so that animals don’t smell it because bears are driven by their nose and their stomach and they’re going to come in and try to find food in an area,” said the department’s David Sausville.

Wildlife officials also say with ongoing development around the state, most areas are now considered bear country and should take the proper precautions.
