WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCAX) – According to the White House, grocery prices may be going down soon – and the driving factor is not what you might think.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is trying to even the playing field for poultry farmers, which should keep more money in your wallet down the line.
New USDA guidelines aim to fight unfair and discriminatory practices in the poultry field. Deputy Director of the president’s National Economic Council, Jon Donenberg, explains how regulating chickens can benefit your wallet.
“Ultimately, what it’s going to do is make sure that more competition exists in these markets, which will help to lower prices for meat at the grocery store. But, you know, that’s really a part of the president’s broader agenda to try to bring down consumer costs,” said Donenberg.
He says it’s not only good for consumers – it’s also good for smaller poultry farmers around the country.
As inflation and grocery prices are declining, Donenberg says the president is pushing companies to be transparent with customers and offer the best prices they can.
