WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCAX) – Senator Peter Welch is helping new farmers reap what they sow.

Sen. Welch introduced the Capital for Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Act to help new farmers overcome early financial challenges.

Under the legislation, the Farm Service Agency would be directed to develop a loan pilot program to help new farmers who often face financial hurdles in their first years of operation.

Welch says supporting new farmers is vital to the long-term success of communities and food systems.
