ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – Another move in the Empire State to keep kids from getting hooked on social media.
The new legislation would prevent social media companies from promoting content to minors with an algorithm.
That would mean for any user under 18, platforms like TikTok and Instagram would be pushed to order content chronologically.
To opt into algorithm-generated feeds, minors would need parental consent.
The bill would also keep companies from collecting or sharing the personal data of minors without consent.
