ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – A constitutional amendment to repurpose former New York state prisons in the Adirondack Park is coming down to the wire.

Assemblyman Billy Jones, D-Chateaugay Lake, says negotiations are underway to pass the amendment in both chambers. It would remove vacant state prisons — Camp Gabriels, Moriah Shock, and McGregor — from the forest preserve to repurpose the buildings for different uses.

In their place, the amendment would add land to the forest preserve.
