New York announces launch of mobile ID

ALBANY (WCAX) – New York state is launching digital IDs.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday that the DMV will offer secure digital versions of a state-issued driver’s license accessible with a smartphone through a partnership with TSA.

“It helps you get through security quickly and easily. You don’t have dig through your purse or carry-on for your driver’s license. you just have it right on your phone. You don’t need to pull up boarding pass when you use the New York ID. TSA will know automatically or not if you have a boarding pass, so quick and easy,” said the DMV’s Lisa Koumjian.

The program is voluntary. Anyone with a valid ID can download the New York MiD app to get started.

Resources and information about how to accept the New York MiD are available on the DMV website.
