Suspects in custody after shooting incident in Jay, NY

JAY, N.Y. (WCAX) – State police say they have suspects in custody after a Monday night manhunt following a shooting incident.

It happened in Jay, New York.

Police say at about 5:20 p.m. Monday, New York troopers got a report of two suspicious-looking men walking on a road carrying long guns. Then, just before 6:30 p.m., they responded to Sawmill Road in the town of Jay where a vehicle was allegedly shot at.

Police say the suspects fled into the woods nearby. State police drone operators, K-9s and other response teams spent Monday night searching for the suspects.

We know those suspects have now been detained, though their identities have not been released.

We don’t yet know whether anyone was injured in the incident but police say there is no further threat to the public.
