Vt., NY, NH to receive millions from Johnson & Johnson talc settlement

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire are among states included in $700 million multi-state settlement with Johnson & Johnson over its marketing of baby powder and other talc-based products blamed for allegedly causing cancer.

The settlement resolves charges that Johnson & Johnson misled consumers into believing its talc products were safe and asbestos-free and did not cause cancer.

As part of the agreement announced Tuesday, Vermont will receive $3.1 million, New York will get $44 million, and New Hampshire $5,9 million. J&J did not admit any wrongdoing.

The company continues to face numerous civil lawsuits over the product and this spring said it was earmarking nearly $9 billion to cover damage awards.
