CDC tool tracks communities vulnerable to heat wave

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – How vulnerable are communities in our region to high heat’s negative health effects?

The CDC’s Heat & Health Tracker tool illustrates which communities are most likely to feel the effects of high heat on their health.

In Vermont, sections of Chittenden, Franklin, Orleans, Orange, and Windham counties are highlighted as high impact. New Hampshire’s Sullivan and Coos Counties and New York’s Clinton County also meet the criteria. That means they’re in the top 80 percent of communities in the country whose residents are most vulnerable to heat’s health impacts

It’s based on data about pre-existing health conditions, sociodemographic factors, and environmental factors.
