Gov. Hochul announces emergency action ahead of heat wave

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York officials are taking emergency action due to the oppressively hot weather moving across our region.

On Tuesday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the activation of the state’s emergency operation center.

According to Hochul, the statewide hub helps monitor conditions and share resources.

She also said 50 national guardsmen are located in Syracuse and Albany to help people however necessary.

Hochul reminded people to check on their family and neighbors as well as take precautions for kids and pets.

The high temps are expected across New York again on Wednesday, including the north country.

“It’s going to be extremely hot and uncomfortable. In fact, it’ll be dangerously hot. That is something I want everyone to keep in their minds when they’re thinking about their families, their friends, their neighbors, and their pets,” said Hochul.

The governor reminded people to keep hydrated and stay inside with air conditioning or visit the state’s cooling shelters.

She also announced that state beaches will open early today for the Juneteenth holiday so New Yorkers can head to the beach to cool off.
