Town of Plattsburgh celebrates arrival of Medisca

TOWN OF PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – There was a celebration in Plattsburgh Thursday as Canadian company Medisca cut the ribbon on a new pharmaceutical repackaging and distribution facility.

“This U.S. facility is a key contribution to Medisca’s success, not just in the U.S., but across the world,” said the company’s Sanjay Goorachurn.

Medisca’s new American headquarters was constructed and is owned by North Country-based TDC and is expected to bring in more than 80 new positions to the area.

lawmakers applauded the company’s expansion. “I’m down in Albany and I often complain about, hey, we can do better job for our business climate. But you know what, it’s not replaceable and it is a place like Medisca that certainly seems to recognize that,” said Sen. Dan Stec, R-Queensbury.

“They came here in 1992 and now we have this. We have a great company with great people and you have fulfilled a challenge and a need,” said Assemblyman Billy Jones, D-Chateaugay Lake.

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, R-New York, says the new facility will help strengthen business ties between the U.S. and Canada. “We understand the importance of the U.S.-Canadian economic partnership. They are colleagues, our friends, our neighbors and this is just another growth opportunity for Clinton County and the North Country,” she said.

And for Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman, another opportunity to put his community on the map. “We have long said that we are globally known and regionally significant. This is another example of a company that recognizes that Plattsburgh is a great place to invest in and further reinvest in,” he said.

Cashman also says more announcements surrounding Medisca will be announced later this year.
