Hassan says hearing with Boeing CEO raised more questions than answers

CLAREMONT, N.H. (WCAX) – New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan says the CEO of Boeing needs to be more forthcoming on recent safety lapses plaguing the company.

At a hearing on Capitol Hill this week, Hassan was among lawmakers who pressed Boeing CEO David Calhoun on quality control problems.

During an appearance in Claremont Friday, Hassan said Americans have a right to feel safe when they fly. “There is real concern that Boeing has been putting profits before safety and quality and what we were really trying to get at in that hearing was the root causes of Boeing’s recent safety problems,” she said.

She says that while the U.S. aviation industry has an outstanding safety record overall, she was frustrated she didn’t hear more about Boeing’s analysis of the problems. She says she is also concerned about possible attempts to punish whistleblowers.
