New help line available for domestic abusers

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A St. Johnsbury domestic violence prevention organization is now offering a helpline for domestic abusers to reach out before they hurt people.

“The Spark” Violence Prevention Warmline is operated by Umbrella, the leading domestic violence advocacy organization in the Northeast Kingdom, and is one of the first of its kind in the country. Officials say calls to The Spark are 100% confidential and that it works by providing people who have or could cause harm, a safe, easily accessible outlet to ask for help and support in ending cycles of violence.

Darren Perron spoke with Umbrella’s Olivia Plunkett about how it works.
