Authorities investigate Fairfax attempted ATM heist

FAIRFAX, Vt. (WCAX) – Authorities are investigating after thieves attempted to steal an ATM from a Fairfax bank early Wednesday.

It happened at the Union Bank on Ramsey Road. Vermont State Police say troopers responded to an alarm just after 3 a.m. When they arrived, they found the outdoor ATM machine had been removed by a front-end loader. They found the heavily damaged ATM along with the front-end loader just down the street on Route 128. There was no immediate word on whether any cash was taken.

Police say both the front-end loader and a white pickup truck were stolen from the town garage shortly before the theft.
