North Country man charged with threatening the president

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – A Northern New York man who was arrested and charged on Tuesday with threatening the president could face prison time.

The U.S. attorney for New York says Troy Kelly, 19, of Crown Point, responded to a social media post from President Joe Biden last month, saying, “Gonna put a bullet in your head if I ever catch you.”

Secret Service investigators say Kelly admitted he posted the threat and said he did it because it was “true.” They say when asked if he still wanted to kill the president, Kelly answered, “If I could, I would.”

Kelly appeared in federal court in Albany on Tuesday on one count of making threats against the president of the United States. He was held pending a detention hearing on Friday.

If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
