North Country overpass dedicated to fallen New York trooper

SCHROON LAKE, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York State Police held a ceremony on Thursday, dedicating an overpass to a fallen trooper.

The Trooper Lawrence P. Gleason Memorial Bridge on Charley Hill Road over Interstate 87 in Schroon Lake honors the ultimate sacrifice of Trooper Gleason, who was shot and killed Feb. 11, 2002, while responding to a domestic complaint in Essex County.

“It’s amazing for us,” said Shannon Gleason Kuhn, Tpr. Gleason’s sister. “It’s really special to know that even after all this time, he’s still being honored. And to know that his sign is going to be there long after we’re gone. His story will still be told and he’ll be remembered. His legacy is there.”

Tpr. Lawrence Gleason was born and raised in Hornell, New York.
