New, large-scale EV charging station running in North Country

NORTH HUDSON, N.Y. (WCAX) – What’s being billed as the largest electric vehicle charging station between Albany and Canada is now up and running.

We first told you about the charging site off Interstate 87 Exit 29 in North Hudson last November.

Now, eight Tesla chargers and four New York Power Authority chargers are available to the public.

A representative with the New York Power Authority says they plan to add another four chargers, while Tesla has plans to install another eight, bringing the total to 24 EV chargers.

He also says the design of the stations will allow large trucks with trailers to drive-thru for a charge.

“It’s really inconvenient for EV owners to try to find a spot to pull into a charging station. For example, Plattsburgh by Sam’s Club is impossible. The pull-in area you have to unhook your trailer and then move the vehicle over and then try to go back and rehook. So, when Mo (Ahmed) put this here in Frontier Town, this has been crazy,” said Walter Cheney, the owner of Team Venom Racing.

The power authority says they hope to build more charging stations every 50 miles, bringing the total from 170 to 400 next year.
