MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Addison County State’s Attorney Eva Vekos is losing her driver’s license.
It stems from her refusal to take a breath test after she showed up at a crime scene in January and police suspected her of driving drunk.
Vekos has been fighting the suspension but has now agreed to it, saying it’s best for herself and her community.
She’s also trying to get a restricted license that would allow her to drive to work. It means she’ll need to go through an impaired driver rehabilitation program and get a breath machine installed in her car. She is expected to lose her license in the next week or so but can get it back in six months.
Vekos has remained the state’s attorney but did temporarily lose her law license. She got that back in April.
“My suspension will not impact my ability to act as state’s attorney in any way,” She said in a statement, “I fully intend to maintain a fully operational and prolific office even with the challenge of understaffing.”
Her DWI trial is expected to happen in September. She maintains she was not under the influence.
