Vt. Department of Health unveils state suicide prevention plan

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The state suicide prevention plan provides a cohesive guide for mental health efforts across Vermont, as well as strategies and objectives to prevent suicide.

The plan highlights four goals – bolster community prevention efforts, increase treatment and crisis services, improve data and research, and advocate for health equity.

Vermont’s suicide rate has consistently exceeded the national average over the last 15 years and it currently ranks as the second leading cause of death among Vermonters age 44 and under.
