BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Many folks are hitting the roads for Independence Day
AAA says more than 70 million people are traveling this week. That not only exceeds pre-pandemic numbers but sets a new record.
In New England it’s expected that 3.5 million people will travel over 50 miles from home for the holiday – that’s a 5.1 increase from last year.
People we spoke to on Vermont roads Wednesday said they were heading to their destination before the 4th.
“Just trying to make it a long weekend, extend it as much as possible, enjoy the good weather I hope,” said Amy Gill of Nashua, N.H.
“It’s ok — some traffic like always everywhere. This time of course is a little bit worse,” said Roberto Di Pietro, a visitor from Florida.
AAA says the worst congestion will be on the 4th between 2 and 7 p.m.
