Essex group protests Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) – Protesters demonstrated in Essex Junction on Thursday morning in the wake of a recent Supreme Court ruling.

The “No One Is Above The Law” protest was organized by Essex Resists to protest the July 1 Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.

In a historic 6-3 ruling, the court on Monday ruled that former presidents have broad immunity from prosecution, extending the delay in the Washington criminal case against Donald Trump on charges he plotted to overturn his 2020 presidential election loss.

The protest on Thursday took place along the sidewalks at the Five Corners in Essex Junction, where members of the activist group spoke about the ruling.

“I hope that the people who live in our community understand that this is absolutely a crisis in our nation that we can’t take this sitting down, that it has very, very dangerous implications for what a president could do, and that we really have to be paying attention to the November fifth election. We just have to pay attention,” said Kelly Adams of Essex Resists.

The local activist group says it has more than 300 members from Essex and surrounding Vermont communities.
