CHITTENDEN, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own.
The Chittenden Volunteer Fire Department says that Capt. Charlie Parker died in the line of duty after fighting a barn fire Monday evening.
In a post on Facebook, authorities say crews were called to a barn fire around 5 p.m. They say Parker afterward returned the tanker to the station but was later found unresponsive by a fellow firefighter. Lifesaving efforts began immediately but were unsuccessful.
Parker was a member of the department for more than 40 years.
