Substance use summit kicks off next week in Essex Junction

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) – Coming Together: A Substance Use Addiction Summit is one week away.

Organizers say it’s the only event in Vermont where every advocate working to end the opioid crisis attends. It’s free and for everyone.

Speakers include those who have beaten addiction, whose boots are on the ground fighting the epidemic from all sides and who have lost loved ones to substance abuse.

The goal is to get the entire community together to better understand how substance abuse plagues our state.

“It’s an opportunity for education not only for service providers and the people who are representing us in Montpelier, but for people who are just civilians who don’t know where to go, what to do, what’s available. There’s so much lack of awareness with what is available, and this is the only opportunity in the state of Vermont to see all of the players under the same roof, at the same time,” said Melinda White, a co-chair of the summit.

The summit is on July 19 at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction.
