Montpelier floods the streets with art to raise money for recovery

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – An event to help raise money for flood recovery through art took place in Montpelier on Wednesday.

The Flood the Streets with Art event allowed folks to draw photos, quotes and other inspirational messages on the sidewalks with chalk.

All of the donations raised are going to communities affected by last week’s flooding in Plainfield and Barre.

Montpelier Alive, which organized the event, says the goal is to help people heal.

“It would be an art therapy– group art therapy. People can draw their feelings, draw their hopes for the future. We’re a community, we’re together and that we can make beautiful things together when terrible things happen to us,” said Amy Pitton of the Montpelier Senior Activities Center.

The event also featured live music that was scheduled to continue downtown until 7 p.m.

Organizers encourage folks to shop at local businesses and donate to Barre Up or Plainfield Flood Response.
