Summer meals program for Vermont kids expanding

BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) – A summer meals program for kids continues to expand in Vermont.

This year, there are 175 school meal sites set up across the state to provide free meals to everyone 18 and under— that’s more than ever before.

The meals include fruits, vegetables, sandwiches and more.

Families say having meals available for their kids, can make a real difference.

“It’s a very good thing I think that way we know they’re eating well. They’re not just getting chips and crackers. And it also helps with families who don’t have a lot of money to know that their kids are getting fed,” said Wendy Hannigan of Barre.

Organizers say there is more relief for flood victims who lost food due to damages.
