ENOSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) – Police are now calling the disappearance of an Enosburgh woman suspicious, but they aren’t yet saying why.
Roberta Martin, 82, was reported missing Wednesday and police said search efforts continue Thursday afternoon. They said detectives from the Major Crime Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigations are gathering evidence, interviewing people and pursuing possible leads.
While troopers said Thursday afternoon that the disappearance is suspicious, they said they could not comment further on what led them to that conclusion.
State police want to talk to anyone who passed through the general area of Sand Hill Road and Butternut Hollow Road from 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, until noon on Wednesday, July 17, and might have any potentially relevant information. Police say they have received tips about people walking or jogging in the area during that timeframe, and detectives want to identify and interview anyone who fits this description. Call the barracks in St. Albans Barracks at 802-524-5993 or you can provide an anonymous tip online.
Thursday morning, Martin’s home on Butternut Hollow Road was taped off with troopers in the area. Police said Wednesday night, they launched a full search for Martin, with drones in the air and a K-9 crew on the ground.
Family members are growing increasingly concerned about Roberta Martin. Vermont State Police say the last time the family heard from Martin was by phone late Tuesday night. Neighbors reported her missing on Wednesday morning after they went to check on her and found she was not at her home.
One of Martin’s family members told WCAX News they are seeing fake posts circulating about Roberta making false claims. They want the public to know Roberta Martin is able-bodied and does not have dementia.
Roberta Martin is about 5′1″ and weighs 115 lbs. She has white hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call the state police in St. Albans at 802-524-5993 or to leave an anonymous tip online.
