Vt. man charged with stealing gun later used in murder

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Milton man faces federal charges of stealing firearms which court records say were used in a murder.

Authorities say John Turner, 53, conspired with others to steal several firearms, including four handguns, from a Colchester home.

They say one of those handguns was used to murder David Auclair in July 2019. Auclair, 45, of Williston, was found shot to death at a Hinesburg trailhead.

Auclair’s stepson, Kory George, pleaded guilty to conspiring with his mother, Angela Auclair, in the murder. Angela Auclair still faces a state murder conspiracy charge.

Police said Turner was Angela Auclair’s boyfriend at the time of the murder.

If convicted on the federal gun charges, Turner could face up to 20 years behind bars and fines of up to half a million dollars.
