KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Killington Access Road has reopened to traffic.
In one of the more unique ribbon cuttings, a dump truck led a parade of cars and trucks up the newly constructed road.
The road project paves the way for a major development at the base of Killington Mountain. The development by Toronto-based Great Gulf will include restaurants, retail space and more than 200 housing units in the first phase.
“This is the first project that is part of the Killington Forward Initiative, so to see this get done, it really presents the vision to everyone and we now get to see the implementation of it,” Killington Town Manager Michael Ramsey said.
A pump station on Route 4 is also part of the first phase of the project. It will pump water up the access road to current businesses and the future ski village.
The $47 million in infrastructure improvements are being paid for with the help of tax increment financing.
