Scott says Biden should step aside in presidential race

BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s Republican governor weighed in Friday on Democrat Joe Biden’s plan to stay in the presidential race.

Biden issued a statement Friday laying out his plans to return to the campaign trail next week, despite calls for him to drop out.

His campaign chair says Biden can win in November despite his age and struggles since the debate.

As politicians from around the country weigh in on the decision, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott stated his stance at a press conference Friday.

“I’ve seen the decline in President Biden in his health and I think he should– obviously his decision to make– but I think he should step aside. I don’t think he’s competent to serve another four years,” said Scott, R-Vermont.

Though Vermont’s Republican Party threw its support behind former President Trump in for the November election, the governor says he will not.
