Scott says FEMA touring Vermont to assess flood damage

BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) – Gov. Phil Scott says FEMA is touring Vermont looking at damage from last week’s flooding.

Scott says the damage is significant and FEMA’s assessment of it will determine whether the state meets the threshold for federal support.

They’re looking at nine of Vermont’s northernmost counties, starting with municipal damage first and then homes and personal property next week.

If the threshold is met, the state can make a formal request to the president for disaster aid.

“Regardless of the federal decision, we’ll continue to do what we can to help those impacted rebuild and recover and remove regulatory burdens wherever we can,” said Scott, R-Vermont.

Scott has also requested a disaster designation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to get financial assistance for Vermont farms.

State officials continued to urge flooding victims to document their damage, keep receipts for money spent on repairs and to report all flood damage to 211. Officials say reporting the damage helps them get an accurate tally of monetary damage in the state that could trigger federal assistance, which will help everyone.

If you need help cleaning up, call 211 to get directed to Crisis Cleanup or go to CrisisCleanup.org.
