Hinesburg looking to incorporate climate resiliency in the next town plan

HINESBURG, Vt. (WCAX) – Officials in the town of Hinesburg are worried about what’s to come when talking about climate change.

Hinesburg was hit hard by flooding this July, and officials are looking to incorporate climate resiliency in the next town plan.

Over 500 hundred residents have expressed their concern over the town’s future.

The town is going to work on putting in more culverts, identifying flood prone areas and how to better manage their waterways.

Officials say, the forefront of everyone’s mind, is how to prepare for the next storm.

“We got reports of up to 10 inches of rain. That put’s this storm well beyond anything we have ever seen before. But I think that the plan is going to look to the town to do more in the way of upgrading infrastructure in the most sensitive side of town,” Alex Weinhagen, Hinesburg Director of Planning and Zoning said.

Hinesburg’s town plan should be ready sometime in the fall.
