WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Vermont Senator Peter Welch is officially backing Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
Welch, who was the first senator to call for President Biden to step aside, initially declined to endorse Harris after Biden’s announcement on Sunday. But after Vermont’s delegates to the Democratic National Convention joined other state delegations Monday night in supporting Harris, Welch said in a statement that he is also on board.
“There is no candidate better equipped to take on Donald Trump and protect our democracy, to advance the Biden agenda, and help strengthen our communities in Vermont—and across America,” Welch said,
Vermont will send 24 delegates to the DNC next month in Chicago. Sixteen were pledged for Biden.
