BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – This August marks 50 years since Richard Nixon resigned the presidency because of his role in the Watergate scandal.
In this edition of 802 News, Mark Johnson spoke with Vermont-raised journalist Garrett Graff, who has written the most comprehensive book about the crimes, the coverup and the downfall of the Nixon presidency.
In his 2022 book, “Watergate: A New History,” Graff addresses many of the unresolved questions that have taken years to unravel as more information has become public– questions including, why did Nixon get untangled in the coverup of the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate complex? Why did he secretly tape meetings in the Oval Office that ultimately led to his political demise? Who is Deep Throat and what was his motive to help Woodward and Bernstein? And most importantly, how is the Watergate scandal still relevant today?
