Pick-your-own sunflower season begins

SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) – It’s that time of year again, many farms in Vermont are getting ready for pick-your-own sunflowers.

The Guilemette Farm Stand has been around for four years now, and officials say their flowers are in peak season.

The farm used to just have sunflowers, but have now added more variety to their crop.

It’s been a long season with all the rain, as the farm stand says some of their fields were flooded out, destroying some of their flowers that didn’t take.

Farm stand officials say, they are having to find new places to plant for next season.

“Obviously we can’t do anything, we can’t go up against mother nature. So we just have to work with it. We are learning from what we have dealt with last year. So we are not planting pumpkins in the spot where we planted last year. Because it was too low. We are waiting for the water to settle and hopefully go away,” Janna Guillemette of Guillemette Farm Stand said.

The farm says, they should be adding more flowers to the crop next season.
