BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington’s police chief is again calling for more to be done to hold repeat offenders accountable. This time, it comes after police say a Burlington officer was assaulted early Saturday morning.
Police say Michael Gbenusola, 41, of Swanton, punched the officer– unprovoked– after police say the officer asked if Gbenusola needed help.
The officer was taken to the hospital.
Police say Gbenusola has an extensive history of violence in Vermont.
“More importantly this is a person who has committed numerous violent acts before. The idea that a person like this is out and not jailed is an affront to law-abiding Burlingtonians,” Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad said.
Murad says the officer who was assaulted is out until further notice.
