Vermont inmate escapes from custody

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say a Vermont inmate is on the run after escaping custody.

We told you last month when Nicolelus Sanborn, 30, of Burlington, tried to flee while he was being transported to the hospital for a medical issue.

Now, police say on Monday Sanborn succeeded.

On the way to a substance use disorder treatment facility, police say Sanborn convinced his chaperone that he needed to stop to pick up clothing from a relative.

When they parked, Sanborn took off toward Burlington and police have not seen him since.

Sanborn has been in custody since June 10, when he was arrested for retail theft and assaulting an officer in Burlington. A charge of felony attempted escape was added after his last attempt to get away.

Anyone who knows where to find Sanborn is asked to call the police in South Burlington at 802-846-4111.
