Vt. regulator approves plan for new UVMMC surgical center

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Getting an appointment could be easier for Vermonters going under the knife thanks to a decision from the Green Mountain Care Board.

In a decision Monday, the Green Mountain Care Board approved the hospital’s application for a certificate of need to create an 8-bed outpatient surgical center in South Burlington.

The hospital says the $130 million proposal would help cut down on UVMMC’s surgical backlog. Without the new center, the hospital predicts it will be behind by more than 4,000 surgeries per year in 2030.

The new site would replace the five beds at the Colchester campus.
