WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCAX) – As communities at home work to rebuild, leaders in Washington are doing what they can to get funding.
“We can’t recover without that federal help. I just can’t stress this enough,” said Vermont Senator Peter Welch.
Senator Welch took the Senate floor Wednesday night to ask Congress to pass a supplemental disaster aid package to help the Green Mountain State.
“It’s my hope that getting disaster funding will be a top priority when we come back in September – not just for Vermont, but for all of the communities around the country that need Congress to act. Vermont’s communities, and communities across the country are counting on us. I implore my colleagues, all of us, let’s do this first order of business when we return in September,” he said.
His renewed effort comes after he repeatedly called on the Senate to pass funding to support recovery and resilience efforts for Vermonters impacted by flooding.
Welch says he is concerned that Congress is preparing to go on recess before an aid package has been passed and is asking that disaster recovery funding be a top priority in September.
