New exhibit features postcards from Peacham

PEACHAM, Vt. (WCAX) – There’s a new exhibit up at the Peacham Historical Association that offers visitors a blast from the past.

“Picture Perfect: Postcards from Peacham’s Past” is a collection of 500 postcards of Peacham made by the Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company in the early 20th century and comes courtesy of Penobscot Marine Museum in Belfast, Maine.

The company sent photographers throughout New England to gather high-quality images to be sent as greetings, and in the process, helped establish Peacham’s reputation as one of the most iconic, picturesque hill towns in Vermont.

PHA president Steve Galinat says the collection is a fascinating glimpse into what’s changed and what hasn’t. “You get to see what things were like in the past, and some things look like they haven’t changed. But you realize the trees are all grown up and hiding a lot of our pictures,” he said.

The exhibit is open Sundays in August from 1-4 p.m.
