ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – The man accused of murdering an Enosburgh woman was back in court Wednesday morning.
Police say Darren Martell, 23, of St. Albans, killed Roberta Martin, 82, last month.
Investigators say Martell was living in a trailer next to Martin’s home when he broke in, sexually assaulted her, killed her and burned her body.
Martell pleaded not guilty to the aggravated murder charge in July and has been behind bars since then.
His weight of the evidence hearing scheduled for Wednesday was temporarily waived after a key state police witness was not able to testify in court.
Martell is due back in court next month.
