Man injured in officer-involved shooting extradited to Vermont

LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – A man wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting that left him injured is now back in Vermont.

Monday, New Hampshire troopers arrested Brenden Sackal, 30, of Rhode Island, on a fugitive from justice warrant after he was released from the hospital.

Sackal had been receiving care at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center since the shooting involving Vermont State Police in Burke. He was taken to jail on Tuesday.

On July 14, Sackal allegedly led police on a more than 60-mile chase across Vermont and New Hampshire that ended in an officer-involved shooting that left Sackal critically injured.

In court Wednesday in New Hampshire, Sackal waived extradition and was returned to Vermont.

He faces more than a dozen charges, including attempted aggravated murder and attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He’s expected to be arraigned on those charges Thursday.

The troopers involved remain on administrative duty.
