BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say they are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight at the Andy A_Dog Skatepark on the Burlington waterfront.
Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the Burlington Police Department say they received news from the University of Vermont Medical Center that a man had arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officers interviewed the victim, who they identified as a 17-year-old youth from Utica, New York, and three other witnesses at UVMMC. Police say that none of these individuals gave a credible account of what happened. They also say that they recovered ballistics evidence from the skatepark.
Burlington Police say the victim was with another man from New York, two men from Vermont. They say one of the men from Vermont has been associated with previous gunfire incidents in Burlington.
The hospital treated and released the 17-year-old for a non-life-threatening wound to his torso. Police say they took him into custody as an out-of-state runaway, and are awaiting action from the Vermont Department for Children and Families and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
