PLAINFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – Donation efforts are ramping up to provide relief to Vermonters and businesses impacted by flooding this summer.
The Vermont Community Foundation says it has raised over $800,000 for flood relief since July 11 and distributed almost half a million of that to regional nonprofits.
The foundation assists nonprofits, businesses, farmers, and individuals with longer-term flood recovery in mind.
The group’s Holly Morehouse says one way for Vermonters to get help is to reach out to local nonprofits. “We are supporting all those efforts. If people are giving locally — I encourage people to give locally. Give where your heart is, and then also consider the power of collective giving to the flood response so that we can make sure that folks who need help receive support, not just in your own town, but in all the towns that have been impacted,” she said.

PLAINFIELD RESIDENTS GATHER TO DISCUSS ROAD DAMAGE
Plainfield residents are gathering Thursday night to discuss road recovery plans.
The town was one of the area’s hardest hit by the July 11 flooding, causing an estimated $8-to-15 million in damage — about 10 times the town’s annual budget.
With no federal disaster declaration and FEMA funds now reserved only for the initial response, the town needs to decide whether to rebuild, build anew, or leave things as is.
Residents and officials will meet from 7 to 11 pm Thursday at the Town Hall Opera House.
