Salisbury dam set for demolition

SALISBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – A derelict dam dog-eared for demolition will finally come down this week.

The Wainwright Mill Dam, also known as Halnon Pond Dam, sits on the south end of Lake Dunmore in Salisbury.

The state says the concrete structure is in poor condition and no longer serves its purpose.

Demolition begins this week with the goal of restoring the natural stream and fish habitat and preventing water from rising so high during storms.

The project will include bypassing water flow, removing the structure, controlling erosion, and restoring the floodplain.
