Programs aim to recruit medical workers in New York

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Governor Kathy Hochul announced $646 million to go towards implementing three career pathways training programs.

The goal of those programs is to recruit and train thousands of New Yorkers to be new health, mental health, and social care workers.

The funding will also offer new opportunities for career advancement to current healthcare workers.

“Those of you who have stayed have had to pick up the double duty, right? It’s extra work, it’s extra stress. The challenge is this: we just need more healthcare workers, full stop. We need more. We need to incentivize them. We need to make it easier. And that’s one of the reasons we got here this morning,” said Hochul.

The funding is going to training programs from the Iroquois health care system, the Finger Lake system, and the 1199 training and employment fund system.
