Woodcarving Association keeping skills sharp in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Green Mountain Woodcarving Association held its 51st show Saturday at the bird museum in Huntington.

The organization started as a way to teach wood carving.

There were about ten vendors at Saturday’s show.

Most of the creations are hand carved, but some of the artists do power carving as well.

Every second Saturday of the month, the association holds a carve-in for artists to work together.

The association says they want to keep people addicted to the craft.

“Not just keeping a trade alive, we are doing something that, if people enjoy it, it’s a craft, but it’s also an artform and a great way to bring out your skills,” Matthew Strong of Green Mountain Woodcarving Association said.

Strong says crafters can carve in lots of different ways.

He says about fifty people came to Saturday’s show.
