BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Beansie’s Bus celebrated its 80th anniversary this weekend.
“The price is a big deal. You know? Eat a lunch for 10 bucks, that’s a working mans lunch,” Morrie Austin of Burlington said.
Morrie Austin has lived in Vermont his whole life, and has been coming to Beansie’s Bus for many years.
He says when he used to work in Burlington eating at the bus was his regular lunch spot.
And he just had to stop by for its 80th birthday.
“Oh everything, just good, fresh, wholesome doesn’t have to be all skidded up. Straight up, good stuff. These guys have been on this corner like you said for so long now. That it’s reliable, they know about it,” Austin said.
Beansie’s Bus has been on the northwest corner of Battery Park in Burlington since 1944.
Since then the bus has had five different owners.
Chris Corron and his family have been running the restaurant for the last eight years.
And Corron says when the opportunity came to buy the bus, he had to keep it going.
“It feels great. We have a lot of great customers that come every day. Some people tell us they have been here for 60 years coming. So, it’s good. You know, it’s good when you know people older than you tell you they’ve been here since they were kids,” Corron said.
And regulars say they look forward to visiting the bus every week.
“Well I usually come down here and we always, me and my dog get fries and burgers. All the time when we come down here. They both usually both have a burger, I usually bring two dogs. But I have one today,” Thomas Billings of Burlington said.
And owners say they are looking forward to another 80 years in Burlington.
