Will Lake Placid will be selected as 2026 sliding games alternate host site?

LAKE PLACID, NY. (WCAX) – New Yorkers continue to wait with bated breath to see if the International Olympic Committee will select Lake Placid as an alternate host site for the 2026 sliding games.

A vote from the IOC is expected to come down in October, as Milano Cortina continues to work away on its sliding facility.

Jim McKenna, the former president of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism or ROOST says he believes its possible for the Empire State to host another event all together in 20 years.

However, he says the state will need to continue its years of investment into Olympic facilities, which he says has paid off in recent years.

“The buildup and modernization for the World University Games has sort of reestablished Lake Placid, Adirondacks and New York State as a real leader in winter sport and the International Sports Federation that primarily headquarter in Europe now recognize that our area is really one that they will continue to participate in their ongoing events,” McKenna said.

The IOC has given Italy until 2025 to complete its sliding track.
