PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – A search for a new police chief will begin soon in Plattsburgh as Chief Peter Mitchell is set to retire.
Mayor Chris Rosenquest says he wants to bring a candidate forward before his term as mayor ends.
It will be a statewide search to meet requirements under New York’s civil service laws.
Rosenquest says he is gathering feedback from former leaders and current mayoral candidates about what they want in their new chief of police.
“My recommendation is finding someone more permanent. Somebody who can fill this gap for long-term and then take that concern and sets of issues off of the next mayor’s plate,” said Rosenquest, D-Plattsburgh.
Rosenquest has not said when he will bring forward a candidate to the Common Council for confirmation.
